The guard house had been quiet during the later hours of the night, after the afternoon death of a man at hte Silk curtain and the arrest of Cedric Ellington everything had quieted down, and so when a loud knock was heard near midnight on the door of the guardhouse, Burton the night watchman was annoyed to have his nap interrupted. He figured it was one of the patrolling guards, comming to punch out of their shift, or to pick somthing up they had forgotten.
He opened the door with a scowl, only to be greeted with silence and a fowl smell lingering in the air. "Skunkcabbage growing around here.." he mumbled, before looking down to see a medium sized box on the ground, and a note attached to it. He'd read the note first: Dear Guards. Important evidence of a secret crime. Take inside before opening due to sensitive nature of evidence. Love, A Concerned Citizen.
Puzzled by the meaning, Burton brought the box quickly inside placing it directly on Ranger's desk. He knew that the Captain would want to see this 'important' evidence. Satasified that he had completed this annoying task, he headed to a back room to finsh off his nap. Not a moment before he could step out of the Office, the Box gave a low startling shake and promptly exploded spewing the contents of the box all over the room. Fish heads, tails, and guts now decorated the walls, floor and desks of the guardhouse. Viritually every corner had reach thanks to the exploding box.
Burton stood in the midst of the smelly chaos, drenched in the gore, "They are not paying me enough for this shit.." he'd declare before promptly leaving the guardhouse, and the smell. His shift was almost up, and now.. it would be someone else problem. he would leave the door to the guardhous eopen, only to eager to escape the smell that by morning would intensify.
The note, written in a hurried script was left unharmed by the explosion, and was nestled just beneath a fishhead upon the Captain's desk, awaiting to be redisovered.
