PostSubject: The family comes to visit (closed roleplay)   Mon Jul 18, 2011 10:14 pm

Etherial held onto the letter in her hand. She couldn't believe that she had a sister, yet alone that she was coming to visit. After her break down last year some of Etherial's memories were missing or incomplete. Something about her sister didn't sit well with her. That sick churning feeling you get when you know something just isn't right. That is what Etherail had now, despite Dizuan's words of encouragement and comfort to her.

Wandering around the estate, she tried to keep herself busy. It was a big house and she had a lot of little ones to take care of. Finding something to do shouldn't be that hard, and yet no matter what she tried to set her mind to, it always went back to her sister. Wondering what she would think of this, or maybe she would prefer that. Unable to settle on anything.

Finally giving up, there was nothing she could do but wait for the inevitable to happen. She just hoped that her husband was around to lend his support when she arrived. Sitting down in the solarium of the estate, she watched the sun dance it's pretty colors against a wall. It was her favorite room in the whole estate. She found it calming and serene. A haven of sorts.

Aranel, an elven woman who looked to be somewhere in her late twenties to early thirties to a human eye, sat in the carriage as it lurched over the road. "Does this city never smooth out its roads?" she complained to her servant, fanning herself with the lace fan in her hand. She was a regal looking woman, fairly tall for an elf, with long blonde hair that hung straight to her waist, and sharp blue eyes that rarely showed any kind of softness.
"No my lady it seems not," the servant, a human girl in her teens, responded, handing her mistress a glass of warm water.

Locien, a rather noble looking kid gave off that appearance not only by his attire but in his attitude. His arms were crossed ever so harshly over his chest as he looked out the window of the carriage. A sigh of irritation came forth as he tried to not only figure out why his mother decided to force him to accompany her in this ho so entertaining journey.

"Mother, Honestly. this place cannot be civilized enough to tend even basic hygiene."

His words were harsh and to the point and even adding to the end of his words he adjusted his tone to the point were he seemed to be questioning his mothers choice on coming here as if it were a dreadful idea. It was after all.

An adjustment to his fine tunic was offered as he adjusted in his seat, the servant offering him warm water as well but at least he wouldn't even give her any form of recognition whatsoever. As if her mere presence was an insult.

He just hoped that his 'luggage' survived the trip.

Aranel glared at her son. Oh, how like his father he was... how she loathed it. "You know as well as I that it was your fathers idea for us to come here," she said, her voice tight, knowing that Daeron had simply wanted her out of his way so he could openly sleep with his latest mistress. As if she didn't already know, about that hussy and the string of others before her. "I do believe we are almost there, so sit tight and hold your tongue," she snapped to him.

Locien narrowed his eyes and tightened his arms around his chest not bothering to even look at his mother as she spoke to him with just as much irritation in her tone as he held in his thoughts. Why the hell was he coming here, hell, he didn't even know his aunt and furthermore didn't care to. She was nothing good...at least that's what he heard through his mothers ramblings. '

"Yes Mother."

He added a little more emphasis to the last word as if he was trying to cause a reaction of some form. A look a head offered a glimpse of what wasn't out there for him. A forest, field and all that crap. He cared little for this type of place. He should set it ablaze and end its own horrific and miserable existence.

It after all would be the merciful thing to do. Although she did snap at him to be quiet, he wasn't really the type to listen...after all he was a Noble. He looked directly towards her, arms still crossed before his chest as he kicked his feet out a little, tapping it against the door of the carriage.

"Whats with your sister anyway... Why would she choose to live out here with a man that obviously cannot provide her with simple accommodation. "

He hadn't a clue as to how his aunt lived and to be frankly honest, he didn't care to know. He hadn't left the city, his home, in who knows how long and if he had it his way he would never leave. The untamed wilderness was what he considered anything outside his city walls.

Aranel slapped her fan down on her knees in irritation. "Dear Etherial," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "Has always been the odd one in the family, selfish. We have not heard from her in many years. How you're father found out where she is living now is beyond me, or why he even bothered to do so."
Her upper lip curled into a sneer, and began to fan herself again to keep the stifling heat of the carriage at bay. How she missed the cooler climate of her homelands in the north.
"We are here my Lady!" the driver called out, slowing the carriage as Aranel pulled back the curtain covering the window to keep the dust out, getting a good view of the place her sister called home...

Locien curled his lip as he heard what his mother had to say, clearly he pushed a button and that gave him a little amusement. He of course would not state another word against it or towards it. He actually hadn't noticed the heat as of yet, that was until his mother started the fanning for the second time and he adjusted in his seat once again wondering once again...why the hell he was here.

The carriage seemed to slow and that gave him an indication that they were either almost to their location or there was something wrong. He so hoped for the later. His entertaining dreams were of course bashed into nothingness as he heard the driver speak of their arrival. Like his mother, he too looked outside to the surroundings...He spoke rather sarcastically now.

"And here I expected straw huts...." He looked over the sight before him not really finding it all that upsetting. It was no home to him but at least they had a floor.

The room was pitch black, but it smelled of sweat and fear; of blood and piss; of cold steel and warm flesh. It made Dizaun Cadsane smile.

He was as blind in the darkness as the man stretched out on the rack, but he had his nose and his ears to guide him, and the man gave off an awful stench. He is hardly a man anymore, no? Dizaun and his Gilded Reavers had been incredibly thorough in their work. It was one of the many benefits of being an elf. With long lives, came increasing patience. For Dizaun, a snow elf, perseverance was a byword for his people, and none so much as their king.

"You shiver," the snow elf purred, his voice soft and seductive. "I hear the clinking of tight chains. I smell the salty tang of your cold sweat, yes?"

The man was silent, except for a choked groan. The chains jerked hard in reflex as he tried to shift and see Dizaun. Obliging him, the snow elf opened his hand, his palm up, and a ball of cold blue light pulsed to life within it. Dizaun Cadsane was not tall, standing shorter than most men, nor was he robust, tending towards girlish, but his presence filled the room as if the darkness owed him its allegiance. Long curly white hair fell down to his trim waist, framing a gorgeously effeminate face. His full red lips were pursed in a wry smile, but for all his beauty, he knew it was his eyes that made women and men both shiver in fear and ecstasy. Each was large, slanted slightly, his irises so blue that they looked carved from the heart of a glacier, and beneath their gaze, he knew people felt as if he were laying them bare. And in this man's case, I am.

The light also revealed the man on the table. He had been young once, before the pain had aged him. In the darkness, his skin had grown lined and pitted in the throes of his screams. His hair had fallen to white, brittle stalks. His joints were grotesquely swollen; his tendons cut to keep him from working his chains from him. Seeing him like this gave Dizaun a thrill, and as he looked him over, his smile grew darker still. I left him his tongue, though. And the bit between his legs. That, I take last. It is more than one such as him deserves, no?

"Can you hear me, beast..? Do your ears still work..?" Dizaun pressed his free hand to the side of the man's head, tilting it as he leaned in to purr into the holes where his ears had once been. "I hope so... "

His captive did not reply. He shivered, another groan rattling from his throat as he tried to hunch away from the snow elf's taloned touch.

Dizaun made a tsking noise, musing, "Oh no, my friend, you will not be getting away from me. I fear I am the last face you shall see. Not entirely displeasing, I should hope..?" Dizaun's free hand slid to grasp the man's member, his sharp nails digging in to the soft flesh until the man squirmed. "Does it grow hard for me as it did for her..? Hmm..? I suspect not." Dizaun let go of him, and moved towards one of the tables. His fingers brushed lovingly over each and every instrument. "You are lucky that I found you, no? I know you do not believe so, but trust me, you are. So many men would take your life without a thought. But no, your master is a considerate one. I want you to contemplate what you did, yes? What you took from me. Do you understand, beast?"

The man gave a shuddering nod, the muscles in his neck as slack as old rope.

"Good," sighed Dizaun, in mock relief, "I did not want my animal to hold any ill will for my justice. Still, your silence is offensive. Speak, beast. I want words, not sullen looks."

The fear of Dizaun picking up one of the toys he stroked so lovingly brought an immediate answer. Writhing like a fish out of water, he looked more like to retch than to speak, but in the end, despite his broken teeth, bleeding gums and a voice thick with disuse, he choked out a passable, "Yash... mashtar..."

"Excellent," cried Dizaun, flashing a winning smile through perfect white teeth. "You cannot know how relieved I am, beast. I would not wish to know I had caused you undue suffering. I have not, have I?"

His chains rattled as he spasmed in terror, trying to respond before the imagined punishment came. I train my beasts well. "N-no m-master... Only... only when I disobey... when I deserve it..."

"Such an obedient animal you are," purred the elf, a hand rising to his chin, stroking it slightly as he turned back to the man on the rack, empty-handed but for the ball of chilling light. "Still, I promised myself, and you, that I would finish this, did I not?"

The man's eyes opened wide, looking like two blue robin's eggs speckled with fright in the light that he held. That got his attention, no? To think that now, in this state, he would want to keep living. They are a remarkably futile creature, humans. "No... Nooo... Master... I'll be good... You'll see... I'll stay away... I shouldn't have done what I did... I've been so good... I'll do anything, anything..."

Dizaun paused, the nail of a finger tapping against his lower lip as he considered the request. "Anything, you say..." His eyes met the man's, and the man began to thrash and scream as wildly as he could beneath his unflinching gaze.

The snow elf was beside the man in seconds, his hand reaching down into his open mouth. Even now, the man refused to bite down on Dizaun's fingers, even as the elf's claw like nails closed around his tongue. In a single hard yank, he twisted it free, leaning in he shouted, "I want you to die!"

His prisoner gurgled something in his panic, blood filling his mouth as he began to cough and sputter, drowning in his own blood. His tongue writhed in Dizaun's hand, the muscle jerking and contracting as he laughed at the obscenity of it. Even now he licks at my fingers for anything I might leave for him. No longer, sir.

When the man stopped his kicking, Dizaun knew that it was over. But not for me. It is never over, yes? Not until I find every last one of you; not until I find her again. He threw the dead flesh in his hand back at the corpse on the table. His hand holding the orb aloft closed, the light winking out, leaving the room once more to the darkness.

Emerging from the basement, he turned to lock the door, and gazed down the long hall towards the arching windows that overlooked the gardens of his estate. It was mid-morning, and the sun cast short shadows across the yard towards their greenhouse, the carefully manicured hedges and trees basking in the golden rays. It was a sharp contrast to the perpetual midnight of his dungeon. Taking a deep breath, he left those darker thoughts where they belonged: in the gloom beneath his feet.

The basement level of the estate was just as large as the estate itself, sunk two levels into the earth in a subterranean mirror of the levels above. Dizaun had built the estate in Eldarus while the pair lived in their previous residence, and on the way across the sea, making sure it was largely ready for their arrival once they had made the decision to come here. To the outside observer, the main building of the estate had a long central building that joined at each end to a pair of equally long wings, stretching back towards the gate. Between the arms of the estate was a long promenade of black stone watched over by silent statues of snow elf heroes. The promenade led to the large golden double doors of the house, within which was a warm reception room of red jasper and gold leaf that stretched to the high ceiling a floor above. On the opposite end of the room was another set of golden doors that swung out into the gardens, another long path leading to the garden path. With both sets of doors open, it gave anyone arriving at the gates a view of the large fountain in the middle of the distant gardens. In preparation for his wife's family, he had ordered it kept open, guards posted to the sides of each portal.

The main building of the estate housed the social areas: an audience chamber and a dining hall fed off from the reception room to either side, and on the second floor, Dizaun's study and the solarium did the same, respectively. The east wing of the estate housed their "servants", kitchens, stables, their stores, and other rooms given over to the day-to-day running of the house. The west wing was for Dizaun's family and guests, with the lord and lady's chambers, guest rooms, the nursery, and private rooms for private conversations.

Behind the estate was a veranda that overlooked the gardens, a staircase cutting through it to bring people closer to the fountain that lay in the garden's heart. Behind the fountain, in the furthest corners of the estate, was a glass garden, and a barracks for the estate's guards. All in all, the estate stretched for nearly four blocks in each direction, dwarfing many of the nearby estates -- Dizaun had bought out three other nobles from their homes to allow for the space he needed.

At present, however, Dizaun had had enough with large, empty spaces and open vaults. So instead, he made his way to the nursery. Dizaun had learned that there were few people he could openly trust, or confide in, or seek solace in, save for his family. It was perhaps one of the many reasons he was so prolific. Between himself and his wife, he had ten children, and many rumored that he had more besides. As does my wife, if you believe every rumor. He quashed his thoughts as he passed the threshold into the large second story room.

His eldest were two now, nearly three, and they squealed in delight as they saw their father, breaking free of the wet-nurses tending them and clinging tightly to his legs. Dizaun chuckled to himself as he pulled them free, hefting them both into his arms for a tight hug until they laughed hysterically in their attempts to get him to let go. The dungeon was forgotten; that was another man's cares and deeds. This was Dizaun the Father, not Dizaun the Pirate, or Dizaun the King, or Dizaun the Sorcerer. This, in all the places of the world, was where Dizaun felt the most at home: surrounded by his family. It was perhaps for this reason that he had accepted the self-invitation of his sister's family so readily; surely, they would be a welcome addition to their little unit. But there was time, he presumed. Time enough to spend with his children before their aunt and cousin arrived.

Time enough for Dizaun to cleanse himself from murder, and to push it down into the basement of his mind, where darker things than even Dizaun himself lurked in wait.

Etherial was busy day dreaming as she watched the colors blend on the wall with the sunlight. Her mind had wandered from its cares of her sister's arrival that day. Stretched out on the couch, the young elf looked around a moment and smiled to herself in pure contentment. Life was good for her as far as she knew. She had a loving husband, adorable children, she could want for nothing material heaven knows.

She knew she had a humbler beginning. From what she could recall of it. Most of it going back to just being in Salamander originally. Bits and pieces anyway. Anything further back that that was rather fuzzy. Her husbands sordid past was something of a fuzzy grey area as well. Oh she knew him to be a dangerous man, but what he had done in the past, or was doing at that moment in the dungeon, she was clueless about. Even the fact that they had a dungeon. Her mind concentrating on that a moment as the herald was given of a coach outside the estate.

Snapping to it, her eyes went wide. "Oh my....they are here....I wonder where Dizuan could be. He should be with me to greet them!!" Nervous as all hell she moved from the Solarium into the hallway of the 2nd floor. Her eyes looking around frantically of where he could be.. Looking to a waiting servant, she told him to go greet their guests and see them to the door safely. She herself would hunt down her husband for a bit. It was good to make a late appearance wasn't it? Or was it? She really couldn't remember at times the rules of upper class society.

The servant did as he was told, going to the carriage and greeting the driver and then opening the door for their esteemed guests "Greetings to you both. The Lady Cadsane has bid me to help you with your things to the main building where she will greet you"

Etherial was moving towards Dizuan's personal study, thinking he must be there as he said he had some important things to look in on regarding his twin sister, Disaun, disappearance and where she might be know. Knocking on the door, she opened it then and looked in "Damn it....He's not here"

Aranel stepped out of the carriage, holding the hem of her dress up so as not to drag it on the ground. She glanced around, trying to hide her surprise at the opulent building and grounds. She inspected the servant who had greeted them, seeing how well fed and clean the man appeared, a sign of a wealthy house indeed if they could keep the servants in such order.

"My sister did not come out to greet me herself?" she asked with a scowl, seeing no sign of the sister that she had seen many years ago, before her own son had been born. To not be greeted on the grounds was a sign of disrespect, and her lips tightened into a thin line.

"Come, Locien, your Aunt is waiting for us inside," she said, letting her own servants that she had brought carry their luggage inside, the household servants telling them where to set up everything for their Mistress and young Master's comfort. She followed the Cadsane servant to the door and into the house, running a critical eye over everything she passed.

"I will want hot water drawn for a bath, and my clothing pressed and set out before the evening meal," she ordered as she and her son walked down the hall.

And there they were, at their famous..well, barely mentioned aunts house. This place actually looked... wonderful. The carriage brought a sense of shelter and therefore the entire effect of the scene wasn't there until he stepped out and in turn into the light and from the confines. A look of utter shock was written on his facial expressions as he took in the sight. He had never expected to see a well established building here let along this...

"Interesting."

The witness of his mothers words indicated to him a slight displeasure and when he noticed a servant approaching he too couldn't believe the audacity that was his Aunt. It was then that he took note of the status representing people he even recognized, he after all was a fanatic of historical figures but more so to their deeds. Some less than positive journey's but holding wonderful and famed outcomes. A second would be taken to admire them as his mother tended to her own 'issues' or whatnot.

You couldn't say that he wandered off but rather took a few un-requested steps away from his mother and therefore the greeting party that clearly wasn't to his or his mothers standards. Frankly speaking he didn't care, he rather disliked those uncomfortable initial meetings with family he not only didn't know but was being forced to meet. He had lived perfectly fine without them for this many years.

"Yes...Mother"

He spoke that with a less than pleasant tone as he heard her command to come as his aunt was waiting inside. How proper... He looked up to the skies debating as to why anyone would want to live here...perhaps it was to hot for his Aunt to come outside.

Of course he would follow expecting his luggage to be tended to all the while he followed just behind his mother as his eyes evaluated the environment. All the while he considered what his aunt looked, her hair, height and all that stuff based on what he sees outside.

Etherial searched a few rooms with little success, where was her husband. She knew that her sister would be at the front of the estate soon and expecting her to be there. As it was she should be as lady of the house. But she so wanted her husband there by her side to give her the support she felt she needed. Though for what ever reason she still couldn't remember why...or what it was she feared of her sister.

Turning through the hall she found Laidir, her trusted personal servant. "Laidir....Find Dizuan for me and send him to the front doors. My sister is here and I wish him to be by my side. Hurry" Sending him off to search the vast estate for her beloved. In her frantic mind she never thought to check where he loved to be. With his children.

Instead hurrying down the stairs, she moved to the grand hall, Hearing the servants running about to get a hot bath for the woman, and some mumbling about the amount of luggage that was being carried in. She shot them all a look to bite their tongues "None of that...she is family and you will treat her as such." Etherial wasn't one to rule the servants and slaves like subpar beings. So for her to put her foot down on the matter brought them too.

Looking towards the walk way that lead to the door way, she saw the woman approaching with a young man with her. "My god my sister presents a strong force to be recokened with evem from here. And that must be my nephew with her" Taking a deep breath she smoothed out her hair and her outfit. She felt like such a phoney in the outfit she wore but it was the official outfit of the Cadsanes of the snow elves.

The outfit was of knee high boots, dark red tabards of her skirt with black and gold inlay . The material moving with each step she took. The top was low cut and side cut, basically coming down in a V over her shoulders to her stomach. Nothing on the sides. The snow elves were warriors where she....was not. Hence her feeling of being a fraud in it.

Seeing them coming closer she made her move, now or never, with or without her husband by her side "Aranel!!! You've made it safely, praise the gods. " Her arms opening wide to greet them "I do apologize for not meeting you at the carriage but I had to see to something that could not wait" Finding her husband was important to her.

"Like reminding a tardy husband that his good sister and her son had arrived," called a voice from the door. Dizaun was still dressed in the same robe as earlier; a pale blue that matched his eyes, and went well with his already pale countenance. Still, it was imperiously made and cut, adding to his dignified grace as he stepped down the stairs from the landing to where the carriage waited.

Dizaun stopped beside his wife, and gave first Aranel, and then Locien a formal bow. Rising, he smiled easily, "Welcome to our home. As long as you are here, it is your home as well, yes? My slaves have prepared you both quite the welcome feast. I hope you have brought your appetites." Dizaun looked over his shoulder at Laidir, and nodded. The slave bowed low, and with a train of many others, his golden-torqued slaves in their red, black and gold livery began to file forward to help the pair with their luggage.

Turning back to Aranel, he offered her his arm, "May I show you your rooms..?" He was unaware, or perhaps simply ignored the fact that the blue of his sleeves was splashed a wine-colored red as the blood of the man he had killed seeped into the fabric.

Aranel turned as she heard a woman's voice, eyeing her sister with a critical eye. Gods above, what was she wearing? Had her sister no shame? A scowl flit across her features before she smoothed it away, hugging her younger sister. "Etherial, sister, it has been too long," she said with a false smile, pulling away as soon as polite, turning as Dizuan arrived.

Her eyebrows shot up for a moment, as she tried to figure out whether the pale, light haired elf in front of her was male or female. She presumed male, as he had called himself Etherial's husband, and curtsied to him formally.

"That would be wonderful, I would dearly love to wash up and change before dinner," she said, taking his arm as it was offered, grimacing as she felt something wet on his sleeve, though as courtesy demanded, she didn't pull her hand away, letting him lead them down the halls to their rooms.

His mothers thoughts came to voice as he eyed his aunt, one he hadn't met until today and based on what he did know of her, the sight before him made wasn't all that surprising. The woman did look like..well...a woman at all. He snickered to himself as he nudged his mother in regards to the image before him. He didn't care if they were proud noble warriors, this was embarrassing even for him.

A subtle shake of his head was formed as he adjusted his own attire, noble in nature and proper in status. The white tunic of the finest materials tucked into a pair of dark trousers while a vest, also dark in color finished off his upper body. His hair, long but neatly tied back, and he was able to look this good even with such a travel.

IT was the mans voice that he heard before he actually saw him and when he did that evaluating tone in his facial features were ever so present. This time though, he was slightly impressed. Not by the mans attire, the stains alone would have been considered a slap across the face of visitors but rather due to his presence. He knew this man had confidence.

The meal alone brought a smile to his lips and because he was a growing boy, he hungered all the time. He just hoped their standards in food at least half matched his. A roll of his eyes formed as he witnessed the fact that he took his mothers arm, all proper like.

He followed just behind his mother, arms crossed as he evaluated the halls, the paintings and anything else that could catch his attention. He was so going to be snooping around this place...that was for certain.

Etherial felt nervous as hell greeting her sister. Yet for the life of her she couldn't remember why. The knot in her stomach and the lump in her throat could vouch for her feelings.

Hugging her sister warmly, trying to make them both feel welcome as she could. "It has been too long.."

Releasing her sister as she heard her husband's voice behind her. Her face lighting up and showing signs of definite relief as she watched him come down the stairs towards them. She didn't notice the stains on his robe at all. Either on purpose or just oblivious was anyone's guess. Ignorance being bliss and all. "Darling....there you are!!"

Her smile beaming from ear to ear as he greeted her family. He had been such a good sport about her springing their visit on him out of the blue. It was rather sprung on her the same way. She turned to address her nephew as Dizuan offered his arm to her sister, the two of them already on their way. She had no recollection of him at all hardly and sad to say by the time she went to open her mouth, he was already on his way down the hall with the others, leaving her standing in the yard.

Her eyes turned to look towards the slaves bringing in their luggage and she could tell what they were thinking. Poor Etherial left behind again.......Her smile fell more as her emotions did, turning quickly to head into the house making a turn quickly out of everyone's view into a room on the side. The door closeing behind her as she wondered what fresh hell she was in for now.
