Well.. its about time we update Eldarus a little bit. What do you want to see changed, improved or remain the same?
Any ideas, suggestions, DEMANDS... post them here. We really wanna see them. Also, we'll be posting some examples of what we may do with the site up, and letting everyone vote to see which ones the most popular. Remember, Eldarus is your site too. You get a say in what happens. NO TACO BELL.

I have a bunch of suggestions.

Do away with the nonessential. The in-between pages on the website are annoying and unnecessary, for example.

Don't fix what isn't broken. The site is beautifully designed, and is exactly what I'd expect from a serious and respectable roleplaying community. Finish it and do away with the in-between pages and it'll be perfect.

If you follow the above two philosophies, you'll do great.

There are some things I want to touch on, though.

These forums suck. The color scheme is terrible. Keep the color scheme simple, but still uniform, and perhaps make the fonts bigger for those of us who suffer from poor vision and migraines.

The forums also need to be more active. For example, in the thread with Lady I), no one replied even though the problem was solved. It makes the forums, and Eldarus by extension, look dead and unprofessional. Even if you solved it in chat, you should have posted in the thread with a solution for people in the future. It's not an uncommon problem, I encountered it myself when I first came back.

The chat is fantastic. The audio and the clock are not. It's tacky. That was something that bugged me and a friend.

When it comes to these things, keep it simple. TS worked because it was simple: simple registration, simple chat interface, simple web site. People like simplicity and efficiency; they like things fast and smooth, so work under those guidelines and you'll be successful.

For example. There are two reply buttons. One starts a new thread. Is that even necessary? I didn't know until I hovered over it with my mouse and looked at the status bar, and that was only after I started a new thread by mistake.

Thanks for the suggestions Aion.
I agree, the site design is pretty nice, but there is a lot of dead space and it can get quite unorganized.
The forums are a free pre-designed forum that we had to pick a theme and go with. There are a few other themes to pick from but this one was the most `medieval..ish`
We will work a bit on the site then move our attention to the forums as soon as we can.

Could you please expand on what you mean by `The in-between pages`

Thank You.

When I go the main page, and I click on the "forum" link, it brings me to another page with another link to the forums. I at first thought the links were broken because of that. That's what I mean by in-between pages. Just cut to the chase and bring me to the forum already. Evil or Very Mad

I agree - the clock must be fixed. As for the chat itself, I just have one request. If at all possible, there needs to be a way to bold and italicize in action posts. Right now it can only be done with the /a or /me in front of the post, and it gets to be a bit annoying.

Personally, I would not mind a form of banking system? Maybe a set up IC and kept track of by the moderators? That way people get to actually play with the actual currency set up. People with an actual buisness have an income system, and other things like that so people aren't throwing 20 gold at the barmaid for bringing over a drink. I feel like that would make the game a bit more intricate, people actually having to KEEP TRACK of their money. Moderators could extract the value posted in each rp that involves buying food. That way, the prices set up by shop owners aren't a big waste of time.

While that sounds like a fun idea, Mika, there's next to no way to properly implement it unless Eldarus were to become almost a web-based game of sorts with an interface. People could just amass money and not 'pay' for things.. plus there would have to be a moderator in each populated room at all times, or someone scanning the logs. Not a fun job, I'm sure.

Just my two cents. Even though it sounds fun, I don't think it would work.

I think it would be nice if currency was just explained, like the conversion or something so we could figure out the worth of an item and everything doesnt wind up being five gold, from a piece of candy to a piece of jewelry.

I noticed most of these suggestions are either for the chat itself, or just sort of extra goodies (which are great, and I'm doing my best to see what can be done) but we haven't had really any input on how you folks like the current design of the website. ANy suggestions on a merely 'looks' basis?

Whenever we get asked this in the chat, no one really says anything but me, and I think that's because the majority of us are in agreement: the site looks impressive. There isn't too much blank space, despite what you might think.

The problems, however small they actually are, are not in the site's design, but in its functionality. We touched on the forums, the in-between pages, and some of the issues with the chat. Those are minor in the grand scheme of things, and that says a lot about the effort you've put into this place. Focus on functionality and not style - you have style already.

That all said, the forums could use a completely different color scheme, but that's it.
