Dead Men's Pass

After it being brought to our attention, a delegation of guards and ranger's made it way to the mountains, where a burned out shell of a carriage was found. Inside was found a half burnt ledger, and in the woods was found the bodies of several men in shallow graves, the beasts having dug them up to feast upon. These men wore the arraignments of men in the King's service, and after studying the ledger through the night, we were able to figure out that they had been the king's tax collectors, and had just passed through several towns, Eldarus having been their last stop before heading back to the castle. Unfortunately, they never made it there, obviously having fallen victim to a band of thugs, the gold long gone. My only hope is that the city will not blamed for the missing gold and the dead men.
